To properly clean the air ducts of a home takes between 4-6 hours using specialized, powerful vacuums, air tools and mechanical brushes.  This type of process is commonly referred to as the "push & pull" method of cleaning (Source removal). The vacuum provides the "pull", while the air tools and brushes provide the "push". The cleaning process involves cleaning all of the vents, supply and return ducts and the main trunk lines. In addition to that, you want to clean the blower motor and housing and deodorize the entire system, getting rid of those musty smells.
